The Ministry of Agriculture of Brazil invests in animal health

The funds will be allocated, among other things, to the control and eradication of plant pests and animal diseases.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Brazil held a meeting, last Monday, with representatives of the Inter American Development Bank (IADB), that will finance, with USD195 million, the implementation of a Programme for the Modernisation and Strengthening of the Agriculture and Livestock Defence (Prodefesa).

The funds will be allocated to the control and eradication of plant pests and animal diseases (foot-and-mouth disease and others), to the improvement of the agriculture and livestock defence, to the institutional strengthening (strengthening of the Brazilian Veterinarian Surveillance and Emergencies System - Sisbravet), and to the implementation of the Technological Park for Agriculture and Livestock Defence - Lanagro de Pedro Leopoldo (MG) and the Risk Evaluation Regional Centre.
