Total meat availability in Switzerland reached 469,408 tons in 2025, representing a 3.5% increase year-on-year and a 2.5% increase per capita, according to data published by Proviande. This growth was primarily driven by increased imports, while domestic production rose by only 0.5%.
Beef saw the largest increase, rising 6.2% to 105,954 tons, primarily due to a sharp increase in imports (+22.6%). Poultry continued its upward trend, growing 5.0% to reach 151,756 tons. Pork availability increased by 2.0% to 177,768 tons, with domestic production remaining virtually unchanged (+0.8%) and imports 15.8% higher.

The share of domestic production within the total available volume fell to 77.3%, compared to 79.6% the previous year, reflecting a greater dependence on imports. Proviande also warned that regulatory limitations and difficulties in expanding certain production sectors, especially poultry, are shifting some of the added value abroad.
