According to data published by the Swiss Food and Veterinary Safety Federal Office (OSAV), the virus detected on the pig farm in Lucerne belongs to the US-type, which is not circulating in Western Europe but is used as a live vaccine in several countries, although in Switzerland vaccination is forbidden.
The virus has not been detected in any of the other forty farms spread through all Switzerland and that have been subject to controls. The exams and tests are still under way, because the origin of the virus is still unknown.
