As of last Friday, May 22, Spain is now able to issue the Livestock Export Certificate (CEXGAN) for exports of pork and pork products destined for the Philippines, provided they were produced after May 8.

As we reported on May 15, the Philippine Department of Agriculture decided to reopen its market to Spanish pork after officially recognizing Spain's regionalization measures regarding African swine fever (ASF).

The authorization applies to the entire country, with the exception of the province of Barcelona, where restrictions remain in place. Processed products are currently excluded, as Spain and the Philippines are still in negotiations regarding them.

With the implementation of the health certificates, the reopening is now fully operational, and exports can be processed as usual.

The Philippines was one of the key markets that remained closed to Spanish pork following the detection of an ASF outbreak in the province of Barcelona last year, as it is the third-largest destination for Spanish pork exports by volume, accounting for 14% of the total—a figure that underscores the importance of diversifying export markets.
