The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia discussed measures to prevent the spread of ASF in a number of Russian regions. The Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev held a meeting with regional leaders and representatives of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.

According to the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, in general, the number of ASF outbreaks in the country is down from last year, but the risk of spread of the disease remains. At the federal level, a set of measures to support business has been adopted. Enterprises affected by African swine fever from 2020 will be able to extend preferential investment loans. As part of the "compensatory" subsidy for farmers, there is a reimbursement of part of the cost of livestock insurance. With the help of the target program, the supply of ASF diagnostic tools to the regions continues. In addition, veterinary regulations and the action plan on the disease are regularly updated.

During the meeting, information on the current situation was presented by the heads of a number of Russian regions. Among key tasks for the regions are the provision of reliable monitoring of ASF in wild boar and farms, as well as the implementation of stock counts in all segments. It is necessary to intensify the transfer to alternative livestock breeding of those facilities that cannot provide an adequate level of biological protection. In addition, conducting an audit of protection systems in commercial pig breeding facilities is needed and, making adjustments to the programs of production control if necessary.
