Russia - Results of inspections at slaughterhouses, on pig farms and at meat-processing plants

Pursuant to ASF Prevention and Eradication Plan adopted by the RF Ministry of Agriculture specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor Administration for the Bryansk and Smolensk Oblasts in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office inspected 7 slaughterhouses, 25 pig farms and 1 meat processing plant in April-May this year in order to find out whether veterinary legislation requirements were observed there.

Pursuant to ASF Prevention and Eradication Plan adopted by the RF Ministry of Agriculture specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor Administration for the Bryansk and Smolensk Oblasts in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office inspected 7 slaughterhouses, 25 pig farms and 1 meat processing plant in April-May this year in order to find out whether veterinary legislation requirements were observed there.

The following deficiencies were detected at most of the inspected plants and in individual entrepreneurs:
- no conditions for self-contained work;
- unsanitary conditions at the production area;
- requirements for animal management veterinary hygiene are not complied with;
- accompanying veterinary documents for the purchased animals do not usually provide data on their clinical status;
- no necessary conditions are provided for the animal slaughter;
- veterinary and sanitary control of meat products is not carried out;
- no data on disposal of biowastes;
- biowastes are disposed in cattle mortuaries that do not comply with the legislation requirements;
- animals are marketed without veterinary accompanying documents.
