The Ministry of Agricultural Development of Panama (MIDA) officially launched the "Alerta Animal" app, a digital tool that allows producers to report symptoms or diseases in their animals using photographs, videos, and geolocation from any mobile device. The launch took place at the MIDA animal health laboratory in Chiriquí, with the participation of national livestock associations and a representative of the International Regional Organization of Agricultural Health (OIRSA).

The app, coordinated by the National Directorate of Animal Health, aims to speed up the response of official veterinary services, especially in remote areas or those with limited connectivity. Producers can submit basic case information along with audiovisual evidence and geographic location, reducing response times to sanitary events.

Associations present at the event (COOLECHE, ANAGÁN and APROGALPA) highlighted that the tool improves communication between the production industry and animal health authorities. The National Director of Animal Health at MISA, DR. Reinaldo Viveros, indicated that the app had already undergone field testing prior to its official launch and is now available to the entire production industry.

The OIRSA representative at the event, Abelardo de Gracia, noted that the initiative is part of a broader regional effort to modernize sanitary surveillance through digital tools and the active participation of producers in the field.
