Minister Tereza Cristina (Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) announced that Brazil has received a favorable opinion from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) for recognition of the states of Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Block I (Acre, Rondônia and part of Amazonas and Mato Grosso) as zones free of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) without vaccination. Paraná also received a favorable opinion as an independent classical swine fever free zone. In May, the opinion will be evaluated during the 88th General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the OIE.

The minister informed the governors and agriculture secretaries of the states about the technical opinion in a virtual meeting, on Wednesday, March 10.

At this point, according to the OIE evaluation procedures, all 182 current delegates of the Organization will be notified of the decision and will have 60 days to request information about the Brazilian claims, in order to support the vote during the 88th General Session.
