Mexico opens new markets for its pig products

The SENASICA is pursuing negotiations with the health authorities of Russia, Thailand and Vietnam, among other countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) has opened 32 markets so the Mexican pig producers can export pork products to 13 countries in Africa, 12 in America, 5 in Asia and 2 in Oceania.

This was made public during a meeting held by the director-in-chief of the Food and Agriculture Health, Harmlessness and Quality National Service (SENASICA), Mr. Enrique Sánchez Cruz, with members of the Mexican Pig Producers’ Confederation.

The General Director of Animal Health of the SENASICA, Mr. Joaquín Delgadillo Álvarez, reported that the SENASICA is pursuing negotiations, right now, with the health authorities of Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, and with countries of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) to open markets or diversify them, as in the case of China, that is also interested in purchasing pig offal.

He finally pointed out that in December, Mexico received the visit of the health authority of Costa Rica, that is interested in purchasing Mexican pork and beef cured sausages.

We must mention that the African countries where Mexican pork products can be commercialised are Ghana, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, the Republic of the Congo, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Angola, Sierra Leone, Gabon, Togo and Mauritania.

In America, Mexico can export to Chile, the USA, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Cuba, Colombia, El Salvador, Canada, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Regarding Asia, the markets of China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong were opened, whilst in Oceania, Mexican pork products can be commercialised in New Zealand and Australia.
