Mexico: Record agri-food exports in 2022

Last year, Mexico's global agri-food trade totaled 94.459 billion dollars, 53% of which corresponded to the country's sales to its trading partners, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

This is the highest figure seen in 30 years, which represents foreign exchange income for the country, the generation of jobs in the primary sector, and better income for producers, without neglecting domestic supply.

Imports totaled 44.327 billion USD, with which the country's agri-food trade balance (livestock and agroindustrial products) saw a surplus of 5.806 billion USD in 2022.

According to data from the Agri-food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), this is the fifth-largest positive balance in 28 years and the eighth consecutive year.

Mexico's global agri-food trade totaled 94.459 billion USD last year, where 53% corresponded to the country's sales to its trading partners.

Exports from the livestock and fisheries sector totaled 21.398 billion USD, 7.47% more than in 2021, and imports from the sector reached 21.548 billion USD, according to data from the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).

Foreign agro-industrial sales reached 28.735 billion USD, 15.98% higher than the previous year, and agro-industrial imports totaled 22.778 billion USD, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, 57% of imports were concentrated in four groups: 21% being cereals; 15% seeds and oleaginous fruits; 14% meat products, and 7% dairy products, eggs, and honey, said the federal agency.
