Progress in the protocols between Mexico and Belgium to expand the agri-food sector trade

Both parties’ interest to encourage the trade of agriculture and livestock products, pork being among them, stands out.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) of Mexico, Mr José Calzada Rovirosa, held a work meeting with the Vice Prime Minister of Trade of Belgium, Mr Kris Peters, to study agri-food bilateral issues between Mexico and Belgium with the aim of expanding the commercial exchange.

The meeting highlighted both parties’ interest to encourage the agriculture and livestock products trade through a better access to the European market for bananas, berries and meat products, especially beef, with a preferential tariff agreement.

Likewise, information was exchanged regarding animal and plant health protocols for apples, pears and pork.

These tasks and actions fulfil the established schedule for the supervision of meat processing plants with the aim of opening the market to beef and pork, mainly.
