Malaysia: ASF continues to spread in pigs and wild boar

African swine fever has now been reported in three states in the country in both domestic pigs and wild boar.

African swine fever cases involving domestic pigs in Malaysia have been detected in December 2021 in the state of Melaka. There has been a total of 11 outbreaks in domestic pigs reported to the OIE affecting 10,069 susceptible pigs.

The first reported ASF case in the country started at the end of October with a wild boar in the state of Perak. Since then there has been a total of six outbreaks in wild boar in Perak. There have also been three outbreaks in wild boar in Pahang from November to December.

Epidemiological investigation to conclude the source of infection is still ongoing. The Department of Veterinary Services is intensively conducting control measures at the infected area and is enhancing public awareness and surveillance throughout the country.
