Main destinations for the Spanish pork

During 2015, Spain exported pork amounting €4,087.19 million, France being the main destination followed by Portugal, Italy and China.

According to the data published by the MAGRAMA, Spain maintains cutting-edge quality and safety standards, and it is one of the great leaders in the pork ang pig products trade: the 4th exporter, together with Germany, the USA and The Netherlands, and beating Denmark, Canada, Brazil, China, Chile or Mexico.

The pig subsector sells 1.7 million tonnes to 126 countries, and has a turnover of more than €4 billion. It is the main contributor to the commercial surplus of the Sanish food and agriculture sector. Spain mainly exports pork and pig offal (73.2%), and cured hams and sausages and other pork processed products (20.6%); but also fats, bacon and lard (1.7%) and live animals (4.5%).

In 2015, 35% of the total exports of pork and pig offal and fats were sent to third countries, reaching 543,652 tonnes (an increase by 27%), with a value of €998 million (+22%). Since 2010 the rise has been by 204% in terms of volume and by 272% in terms of value.
