Livestock production in Russia in 2017

In 2017, livestock and fowl production amounted 14.6 million tonnes.

On March 11th, 2018, in the context of the All-Russian Agricultural Producers’ Forum, Mr Kharon Amerkhanov, the Director of the Department of Livestock and Husbandry of the Ministry of Agriculture gave an opening speech, itemising the state of the livestock sector and the forecasts until 2020.

According to Mr Amerkhanov, “Russia is one of the five main producers of meat and milk in the world. In the last 3 years alone, the production of all kinds of meat has increased, in terms of liveweight, by 1.7 million tonnes, milk in the industrial sector by 1.3 million tonnes, and eggs by 2.9 million units.”

In 2017, the production of livestock and fowl amounted 14.6 million tonnes. In 2020, it is forecasted that production reaches 15.5 million tonnes: 6.1% more than in 2017. Fowl and pig production hold a leading position: “During the last 3 years, pig production at an industrial level has increased by 31%, and fowl production by 20%”, according to Mr Amerkhanov.
