Lithuania will build a fence to prevent entry of African swine fever

The fence will be constructed in the territory of the focus of the swine fever – Varcios, Gedimino and Kalesniku forests in Alytus and Varena districts.

In order to prevent the possible spread of African swine fever, Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture will allocate LTL 1.9 million (EUR 542 thousand) for the preventive veterinary measures.

Part of these funds will be used for built a physical barrier. According to the Minister of Agriculture, Vigilijus Jukna, "the fence will be constructed in the territory of the focus of the swine fever – Varcios, Gedimino and Kalesniku forests in Alytus and Varena districts. We hope that the fence will prevent form the migration of the wild animals and the spread of the fever into the farther country's areas".
