On 24 July 2014, higher mortality of pigs was noticed in the Rupinskai farm (Ignalina district) owned by the group of Idavang. After an increase in mortality of domestic pigs, samples were investigated at the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute and found real-time PCR positive for African swine fever.

An epidemiological investigation is carried out at the pig farm.

A total of 19,411 pigs of different ages are kept in this farm. State Food and Veterinary Service has established a 3 km protection zone and a 10 km surveillance zone around the farm in accordance with Council Directive 2002/60/EC of 27 June 2002 laying down specific provisions for the control of African swine fever and amending Directive 92/119/EEC as regards Teschen disease and African swine fever.

According to Idavang, all pigs on the farm will have to be destroyed.
