The japanese Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed this weekend the presence of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) in a pig farm in the city of Gifu, Gifu prefecture, in the center of the country with 610 susceptible animals.

The suspicions began on September 3 after the death of an animal and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of the disease.

The last outbreak of this disease in Japan took place in 1992 and in 2007 it obtained its disease-free status from the OIE.

The Ministry has implemented the relevant control measures, including slaughter of the pigs of the farm and restriction of animal movements within a radius of 3 km around the outbreak. Disinfection around the farm has been strengthened and disinfection points have been established on the main road.
