Following the confirmation of two positive cases of African swine fever (ASF) virus in imported food, the Italian Ministry of Health is paying particular attention to pork products and has organized "nationally coordinated" controls in stores, points of sale, and local city markets where unauthorized ethnic products could be marketed.

The measure follows reports from the Prevention Department of the Naples Local Health Authority that detected ethnic foods containing ingredients of animal origin illegally imported into Italy.

The tests, carried out by IZSUM laboratories, detected ASF virus in two samples tested.

The positive results were found by the Local Health Authority of Naples, with 11 ASF positivities in 22 samples of bars with dehydrated products declared as vegetables but containing pork.
