Philippines: Iloilo to launch sentinelling program following ASF outbreaks

The provincial government aims to improve the hog inventory in Iloilo with its sentinelling program in 15 municipalities covering 1,139 farmers.

The provincial government has allocated PHP13.67 million for the sentinelling program to increase its hog inventory following outbreaks of African swine fever which started in the province last year in Oton. Each qualified farmer will receive two piglets.

As of April 22, Iloilo has 83,465 heads available, a 15% increase from February 12, when the province had 72,320 heads. From January up to April, the pork sufficiency level of Iloilo was at 70%, including the frozen and processed pork shipped into the province
