Dutch pig producers have gained access this year, for the first time, to the Chinese market. The high demand for pork in China has obliged Beijing to permit imports from other countries to fulfill the need.

The Dutch swine sector exported 850.000 tons of pork last year, Germany being its largest buyer. Up until now they were only able to export hog casings to China, but according to the Meat and Livestock Corporation (PVV), there are two meat industry companies Vion de Eindhoven and Van Rooi, located in Helmond, that have obtained permission from the Chinese government to export meat. China could become one of the most important markets for Dutch exporters, for high price pieces as well as sub products pig’s feet, etc.
