After an almost stable 2021, pig slaughter in the first nine months of 2022 saw a decrease in volume (-2.5%), reflecting the decrease in France's swine inventory.

In the first eight months of 2022, the export volume of fresh, chilled, and frozen pork decreased by 7% (-21,000 t) compared to the same period in 2021. While exports increased to the EU (+17%, +30,000 t), they stabilized for Italy, the leading destination (-7%, -3,000 t), and decreased to third countries (-34%, -52,000 t), in particular to China (-58%, -59,000t). French imports, virtually entirely of EU origin and mostly from Spain, increased (+7%, +13,000 t).
