The Official Veterinary Services (SVO) of Greece reported an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) on a domestic pig farm on April 26, 2023.

The farm, with an inventory of 675 animals (1 boar, 53 breeding sows, and 621 finishing pigs), is located in the municipal district of Livadia, municipality of Sintiki, and the regional unit of Serres, within the reinforced surveillance zone I.

Following clinical suspicion of the disease, samples were taken and tested positive by RT-PCR at the National Reference Laboratory.

This is the second case of ASF detected in domestic pigs in Greece in the same region of Serres, after the Greek authorities detected a single case in a backyard farm on February 5, 2020, which was quickly controlled and eradicated. The first case of ASF in wild boar in the same region was reported on January 20, 2023.

The affected farm is located in the municipal district of Livadia, Sintiki municipality, Serres regional unit, within the reinforced surveillance zone I.
