The Federal Minister of Agriculture, Ms Julia Klöckner, has announced the approval and the publishing, in due course, of the regulation that will allow the use of isofluorane as a veterinary drug to remove pain when castrating piglets.

According to the Decree of November 19th, 2018, the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, that is responsible for the authorisation of veterinary drugs, granted an authorisation for the veterinary drug "Isoflurane Baxter vet 1000 mg/g" used as inhalation anaesthestic for cats, dogs, horses and pigs (piglets). Therefore, for the first time in the EU, there is an inhalation anaesthetic available for the implementation of an effective removal of pain when castrating piglets.
