French pork exports increased in 2016

Pork exports increased, especially towards China, while imports declined.

According to Agreste, French pork exports increased by 1.4% in 2016 (+8000 tonnes of carcass weight equivalent —tCWE). The situation varies according to destination, 34,000 less tCWE towards the European Union, but 45,000 more tCWE to China.

In the meantime, pork imports are decreasing (−6%, −37,000 tCWE) mainly from Germany and Spain, France's main pork suppliers. In total, the foreign trade balance, which was negative in 2015 (−23,500 tCWE), was positive in 2016 (+ 21,200 tCWE).
