French pig production increases

In January 2018, pig production grew by 4.1% in comparison with January 2017.

French pig production rose by 4.1% from January 2017 to January 2018, in line with the increase in the number of heads slaughtered (+2.5%), the weight of the carcasses (+1.3%) and the live pigs exports (+24%), 70% of which have gone to Belgium.

In January 2018, the French pork exports grew by 4,270 tcw (tonnes in carcass weight) in comparison with the results in January 2017. The exports to Italy grew by 38%. The sales to several Asian countries have also increased, despite the fall of the exports to China by 30%.

At the same time, pork imports grew by 4,950 tcw: +2,200 tcw from Spain, +1,100 tcw from Germany, + 800 tcw from The Netherlands and +700 tcw from Belgium.
