On the occasion of the meeting between the Russian and French veterinary services held last 14 January in Berlin, both parties reached heads of agreement for the resumption of the French exports of live pigs, and pig's offal and fat to Russia.

Since the embargo, France and Russia have held bilateral negotiations. With these heads of negotiation and the possibility given by the European Commission so the member states may negotiate the health conditions with Russia, the recovery of the exports may come into effect during the next few weeks.

Despite the good news, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Stéphane Le Foll, still maintains the request handed over to Commisioner Hogan so emergency measures, such as the private storage of pork, are taken, because the situation is still tense in the European market.
