French health authorities are conducting investigations to determine the circumstances of the infection and to establish a list of persons who have been in contact with the patient.

At this point, a link between the infection and the individual's exposure to live pigs in the week prior to the onset of symptoms cannot be confirmed. No other symptomatic persons have been detected in the patient's immediate environment.

Due to the active circulation on pig farms of a viral strain close to the virus involved in this infection, health care professionals in the region have been asked to do a routine search for influenza virus in anyone in contact with pigs presenting with symptoms of acute respiratory infection (fever, sore throat, headache, cough).
