France: Decrease in pork production

In April of 2011 pig production in France decreased by 2,1%. Since the beginning of the year, production has fallen by 1,8% and slaughters by 1,7%.

In April of 2011 pig production in France decreased by 2,1%. Since the beginning of the year, production has fallen by 1,8% and slaughters by 1,7%.

Regarding the trade of live animals, in the fourth quarter a decrease of 5,8% was seen as well as a 9,4% decrease in importation, compared with 2010. With respect to this last point, the significant decrease in importations from Holland stands out (-61%), while on the other hand, importations from Belgium & Luxembourg and Spain have increased, with rises of 8% and2%, respectively.

Regarding pork exportations, these have maintained relatively stable (+0,2%) since the beginning of the year. Among the EU associates, only the UK and Spain have increased their purchases of French pork. For their part, Russia and northeast Asia have also increased their purchases by 2,2% and 31%. Importations increased between January and April by 1,2%.
