Denmark will sell meat from pigs raised under more strict welfare conditions

The pig meat sold with the "Velfærdsgrisen" label will come from pigs that have not had their tail docked and that have been raised with more straw bedding, and the sows will have been group-housed during their production cycle.

During the last Danish annual swine congress (Svinekongres), the main Danish abattoirs, Danish Crown and Tican, together with organizations related to animal welfare and the Swine Investigation Centre, signed a statement of intent in order to sell meat from pigs raised under more strict welfare conditions under the "Velfærdsgrisen" label.

The pig meat sold under the "Velfærdsgrisen" label will come from pigs that will not have their tail docked and that will be housed with more straw bedding, and the sows will have been group-housed during their production cycle.
