The Minister of Environment and Food of Denmark, Mr Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, has informed that as of next year, a series of measures will be implemented to reduce tail docking, therefore improving animal welfare.

According to the information provided by the Danish Ministry, in the EU tail docking is performed in 98-100% of the animals, whilst in Denmark that percentage is 98.5%. With the aim of reducing this percentage, as of 2019 the pig farmers will have, among other things, to fill in a register of the animals on which tail docking has been performed (as of January 1st, 2019) and carry out an assessment of the risks that justify this measure, as well as a action plan to avoid it (as of April 1st, 2019).
