The Danish Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Dan Jørgensen, will launch a new inspection campaign destined to ensure that the pig producers obey the welfare regulations for pigs related to the incorporation of environmental enrichment materials in the pens that allow the pigs to root.

The Ministry has decided to set in motion the campaign after the detection of many violations of the regulations.

Of the approximately 600 farms in which the DVFA carried out welfare controls in 2012, almost 100 of them received warnings because there were not enough environmental enrichment materials.

The violations of the regulations can be punished with a warning, a writ or a police investigation. The farmers that do not fulfil the regulations face the risk of losing part of the EU subsidies if the non-fulfilment is continuous.

The campaign will start this month of April and will last until next autumn.
