According to information from the Department of Agriculture, most parliamentary parties were favor of the measures proposed by Minister Mogens Jensen to reduce antibiotic use by 8% and to eliminate the use of zinc oxide in pig production altogether by the end of 2022.

This objective comes recommended by the Veterinary Medical Council.

Danish pig farmers have managed to significantly reduce their use of antibiotics through the years, now being 28 percent lower than it was in 2009.

It was also decided that target levels would continue to be calculated in kilograms of active substance as before, but at the same time a calculation by dose would be made.
