Cuba: pig industry development programs

Cuba is working on five pig industry development programs focused on feed, genetics, reproduction, and health.

According to statements made by general director, Joaquín Díaz, of the Swine Research Institute of Cuba, to the newspaper, Prensa Latina, Cuba is working on the implementation of five programs to further develop the swine sector. The programs cover topics related to conventional and alternative food production, genetics, reproduction and animal health.

Regarding feed, research is being done on the use of mulberry, moringa, and other crops to feed pigs. Additionally, production capacities have been expanded in genetic centres.
