Colombia: Historic results for pork with the Colombia Siembra seal

The pig industry of Colombia has been growing at a very quick pace in the last years.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, Mr. Aurelio Iragorri Valencia, highlighted the production of rice, pork and cocoa as historic, with growths by 19%, 13.5% and 3.6%, respectively, supported by the Colombia Siembra policy.

In the specific case of pork, the rise in its consumption reached 6.8 kg per capita in 2016, a figure that has doubled in the last six years (it was 4.5 kg). This situation shows the important growth of the pig industry, with a production that has increased by 13.5% in comparison with 2015, with 362,000 tonnes. The accumulated rise in the last two years is 30.3%.
