Chinese consumers spend more on organics

Fresh milk (37%), cooking oil (35%), pork (33%), beef (26%) and chicken (26%) are the top five categories.

Some 80% of urban Chinese consumers claim that organic food and drink products are worth paying more for, said new findings from research house Mintel.

Some 56% of consumers in this group claim to have upped their spending on organics and purchased organic fresh foods in the past year and 22% purchased organic frozen foods. Fresh milk (purchased by 37% of Chinese urban consumers), cooking oil (35%), pork (33%), beef (26%) and chicken (26%) are the top five categories where Chinese consumers have purchased organic food.
