According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the national live pig inventory increased 4.8% in July month-on-month, which was the sixth consecutive month of growth, with a year-on-year increase of 13.1%. This is the first year-on-year increase in the live pig census since April 2018. In June, the breeding sow census increased by 4.0% month-on-month, increasing for 10 consecutive months, up 20.3% year-on-year .

Coming into June, the price of pork had risen again due to increased consumption following improved control of COVID-19 and increased seasonal consumption. Recently this increase in pork prices has begun to weaken. Pork is expected to show tight supply and high price fluctuations in the third quarter. With the continuous increase in the number of finishing pigs on the market, the relationship between supply and demand will be further eased in the fourth quarter, and it is unlikely that prices will continue to rise sharply.
