Last 19 November, the National Agricultural Health Service of Peru (SENASA) officially informed the Chilean Agricultural and Farming Service (SAG) of the presence of porcine epidemic diarrhoea (PED) on pig farms in the regions of Tacna and Moquegua.

To avoid the entrance of this diseae to Chile (PED-free country so far), the SAG is implementing the following measures:

  • Organisation of meetings with the owners of pigs on a local level and with the livestock board.
  • Strengthening of the health barriers at the borders (Border Complexes of Chacalluta, Visviri and Chungará).
  • Verification of the imports of all the products that come from Peru.
