This technical handbook was developed within the framework of a public and private collaboration work headed by the SAG in which several institutions that promote animal welfare in pig production systems collaborated, among them the Trade Union Association of Pig Producers of Chile (ASPROCER) and the Meat Exporters Association (ChileCarne), as well as the Chilean Animal Welfare Association (ACBA), national experts from different academic institutions and the NGOs Humane Society International (HSI) and World Animal Protection (WAP).

The recommendations included in the handbook aim to provide tools that allow to promote the observance of the regulations on animal welfare and to reduce the gaps in infrastructures and management between the different production systems, by adapting to the regulatory framework in force inspected by the SAG and to the OIE/WHOA's guidelines.
