The Minister of Agriculture of Chile, Mr. Carlos Furche, announced the creation of a work team that will get the ASPROCER, ODEPA and SAG together to strengthen the competitiveness of the pig sector and will monitor that the imports fulfil the same requirements imposed on the national producers as, for instance, the use of forbidden substances, such as ractopamine.

Chile is the sixth pork exporter in the world and it is highly regarded in the most demanding markets. The pig industry's exporting strategy, together with the work in the public-private sector has entailed that currently, pork is the main exported meat, representing 61% of the total meat exports.

The Minister, Mr. Carlos Furche, announced the immediate creation of a work team between the ASPROCER, SAG and ODEPA “to identify precisely which are the aspects in which the sector considers it is in a disadvantageous position from the normative and regulatory viewpoint and, at the same time, identify which are the mechanisms for adapting our regulatory system to these international conditions.”
