Bulgaria - Approved a strategy for establishing the Bulgarian Agency for Food Safety

The Bulgarian Cabinet has decided to approve a strategy for the establishment of Bulgarian Food Safety Agency for as well as a Risk Assessment Centre under the administrative authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Bulgarian Food Safety Agency for will be subordinated to the Minister of Agriculture and Food with budgetary credits and will have controlling functions.

The Bulgarian Cabinet has decided to approve a strategy for the establishment of Bulgarian Food Safety Agency for as well as a Risk Assessment Centre under the administrative authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Bulgarian Food Safety Agency for will be subordinated to the Minister of Agriculture and Food with budgetary credits and will have controlling functions.

The strategy envisages establishment of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and the accompanying Risk Assessment Center. In this way, control on compliance with European and Bulgarian law will be exercised at all levels of the food chain– ranging from the animals themselves, animal health care, the condition of farms and stables, food processing and manufacturing, agricultural control, plant, vegetable and fruit control, and others.The Agency will exercise control based on risk assessment to ensure a high level of protection of human health, animal and plant welfare in order to increase consumers’ trust
