The OIE declared eradicated the foot-and-mouth disease in the Brazilian states of Alagoas, Maranhão, Paraíba, Ceará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco and the north of Pará.

The 178 member countries of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) declared that the foot-and-mouth disease was eradicated in the Brazilian states of Alagoas, Maranhão, Paraíba, Ceará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco and the north of Pará.
Brazil has now 23 states plus the Federal District internationally recognised as foot-and-mouth disease-free with vaccination, and Santa Catarina still is the only state free from this disease without vaccination. The next step is the goal of making Brazil a country that is completely free of this disease. In order to attain it, the Ministry is carrying out a joint work together with the state governments and private companies so Amapá, Roraima and Amazonas are also considered as foot-and-mouth disease-free.
