Brazil: New projects on animal welfare

The MAPA will hire specialists and technical teams with the aim of raising awareness on and training in animal welfare in the farming field.

In 2018, the Organisation of Good Practices and Animal Welfare (BEA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Farming and Supplies (MAPA) is going to expand its agenda with the hiring of professionals through an agreement with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

Among the tasks to be carried out there is the devising of studies on legislation regarding good practices and animal welfare, or giving continuity to the welfare in pig production project, developing specific instructional materials and promoting training and the raising of awareness.

Instructional materials aimed at the drivers of vehicles for the transport of live animals will also be released.

In all the actions aimed at raising the awareness and the training of the workers, the importance of prevention and the battle against the resistance to antimicrobials, and the link between human, animal and environmental health (one health concept) will be strengthened.
