According to data published by the Brazilian Association of pork producers and Exporters (ABIPECS) it is expected this year that Hong Kong become the main destination for Brazilian pork.

Between October and January of this year, Brazil exported 120,730 of pork to Russia and 107,500 tons to Hong Kong. While exports to Russia have plummeted due to the Russian embargo on Brazilian pork imposed 5 months ago, sales to other countries such as Ukraine Angola, Singapore, Uruguay, Albania, Venezuela and Haiti have increased.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, by 2012 Russia will no longer be the second largest importer of this meat; they will fall to third place, with Honk Kong and China taking its spot. Japan will continue in first place with 1.2 million tons per year.
