The Brazilian Association of Pig Meat Producers and Exporters (ABIPECS) foresees an increase by 15.7% of the pig meat exports in 2014, and this translates as 590,000 tonnes in comparison with the 510,000 tonnes exported in 2013. The greatest importer of pig meat in the world (Japan) has increased its meat demand from Santa Catarina (the only Brazilian state authorized to export pig meat to Japan).

On the other hand, the estimation of the production of pigs points towards a stable market without important changes, with an increase by 1% in 2014. Even the home consumption will remain stable, at about 15 kg of pig meat per capita.
