Austria - Slight decline in pig census

The latest information published by the Austrian Institute of Statistics shows a 0,5% decline in the pig census as of June 2010, compared with December 2009, with a total of 3,12 million animals.

The latest information published by the Austrian Institute of Statistics shows a 0,5% decline in the pig census as of June 2010, compared with December 2009, with a total of 3,12 million animals.

Although between December 2009 and June 2010 a significant increase of piglets has been observed, the number of fattening pigs has decreased 5,4% while the sow stock has stayed practically the same.
