On October 9th, the Director of the Macedonian Food and Veterinary Agency, Mr Zoran Atanasov, reported that African Swine Fever virus had been detected in a shipment of 21,312 tonnes of frozen pork from Spain. In his statements, Atanasov also reported that Spain is free of ASF.

Sources consulted by 333 from the Spanish Department of Agriculture have reported that the results of the analyses carried out by the European Union Reference Laboratory (CISA-INIA) on ASF were negative.

Additionally, the official veterinary services of the autonomous communities identified and took samples on the farms of origin, and did not find clinical problems or abnormal mortality. All analyses were negative.

The department has met with the Heads of Services of the autonomous communities to report on all the steps taken to clarify the issue.
