A good year for pig production in Argentina

Last year was a positive year for pig production in Argentina, with increases in slaughterings, meat production and consumption.

According to the data of the Pig Bulletin published by the Ministry of Agroindustry, in 2016 a total of 5,986,561 heads were slaughtered. This entails an increase by 8,3% with respect to 2015 (5,523,715 heads).

Regarding pork production, it reached 518,538 tonnes (carcass weight), 7.26% more than in 2015, when it reached 438,437 tonnes.

Regarding consumption, it has gone from 11.43 kg per inhabitant and year in 2015 to 12.54 kg, an increase by 9.68%.
