80% of Spanish pork exports go to China

With more than 620,000 tons of pork exported in the first quarter, China accounted for 80% of the total.

The latest data published by CEXGAN on Spanish meat product exports show a new increase in exports of meat and meat preparations, reaching 230,261 t in March, an increase of 61% over the previous year. If we look at the cumulative figure for the first quarter, total exports of meat products reached 677,126 t, 73% more than for the same period of the previous year.

Pork products are the main driver of these outstanding increases, as they accounted for almost 92% of total exports during the first quarter, with 622,270 t and an increase of 79% compared to 2020 data (347,728 t).

China is the main destination for Spanish pork, accounting for 80% of total exports (492,765 t). In fact, Spain is the world's leading supplier of pork to China. The Philippines, Japan, South Korea, and Great Britain are the other leading destinations, but they trail behind China (Figure 1).
