Winner of Veterinary Education category of the 2024 World Veterinary Association Global Veterinary Award

The World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Ceva Santé Animale (Ceva) are pleased to announce the winner of the Veterinary Education category in the forthcoming WVA Global Veterinary Awards, as Professor Dato’ Dr. Azmi Lila based in Malaysia.

Professor Azmi holds a diverse range of qualifications, including a PhD in Virology/Microbiology from the University of Cambridge, an MBA, and an LL.M in Business Law. He is former President of the Asian Association for Veterinary Schools (AAVS), former Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, former Deputy Vice Chancellor at Universiti Putra Malaysia, and has held various council memberships with various regulatory boards in Malaysia and organisations abroad. Beyond academia, Professor Azmi has actively participated in corporate governance, finance, and investment within the veterinary and healthcare industry. His experience in venture capital, private equity investment, technology management, and commercialization has allowed him to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Professor Azmi’s award is the fifth and final category winner to be announced in the run up to the Awards ceremony which will take place on the 17th of April during the 39th World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC), in Cape Town, South Africa. One overall winner will be named as Veterinarian of the Year on stage during the ceremony.

Professor Azmi was nominated by the Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA). Dr Helen Mitin, MVMA’s President stated: "Prof Dato' Dr. Mohd Azmi's victory in the WVA Veterinary Education category is a celebration of his extraordinary blend of academic prowess, innovative research, and unwavering dedication to the veterinary profession. His influential roles, diverse expertise, and passionate teaching embody the pinnacle of veterinary education and leadership on a global stage".
