Junction 2020 Connected is a weekend-long hackathon being held on 6–8 November. Participants at the event will endeavour to develop new, innovative approaches and solutions to the data-driven challenges presented by companies.

‘HKScan’s Agrofood Ecosystem® work has generated data that will be used to increase the transparency of its meat production chain. This new information will help to further advance our activities and corporate responsibility work’, emphasises Ulf Jahnsson, HKScan’s VP for Strategic development in primary production.

Jahnsson adds that the aim of the hackathon weekend is for participants to take all the collected carbon and water footprint data from farms as well as information on animal welfare and refine it in a way that will interest and inform consumers and other stakeholders.

‘In accordance with HKScan's strategy, we will grow into a versatile food company that is also known for its advanced responsibility work. We hope that the hackathon event will further highlight the responsible aspects of our meat production and the user-friendly approach to our operations. Digitalisation will make the entire value chain easier to measure and more transparent’, states Tero Hemmilä, CEO of HKScan.

The application period for the Junction 2020 Connected event is open until 9 October. The event is expected to attract around 3,000–4,000 participants.

‘It’s great that HKScan is part of the Junction 2020 Connected hackathon. Digitalisation and corporate responsibility are areas that truly interest young people worldwide. As a result of the hackathon, there will surely be plenty of interesting solution models created for the challenges presented by HKScan’, promises Virva Brax, who handles Marketing and Communications for Junction.

Brax explains that Junction 2020 Connected is primarily a virtual online event. The current coronavirus instructions will be observed within the work of local hubs to ensure everyone’s safety.
